Looking for farmhouse shelves that will add style and character to your home? Ok, great!
Let’s face it, not everyone lives in a freshly decorated modern farmhouse. White farmhouse exteriors and custom kitchens are amazing, but for only the lucky few.
Most of us are faced with the challenge of adding farmhouse style to ordinary everyday houses.
Where do you start?
Well, DIY Farmhouse home decor is a great place! Living rooms and farmhouse mantel decorating ideas can also add farmhouse style.
But right now, I want to focus on one design element that is fundamental of nearly EVERY modern farmhouse design.
Farmhouse shelves.
Farmhouse shelves add definition and style to your walls. They are a simple way to bring in multiple farmhouse elements (i.e. rustic woods, black iron and white).
Regardless of what your space looks like, you can find inspiration in these farmhouse shelving you can build and DIY on your own!
They showcase multiple variations of farmhouse styles, and all of the links and images provided will lead you to the DIY tutorials.
If you have a handy tool ready DIYer around you can knock these out in no time!
Let’s get to it!
1) DIY Industrial Pipe Shelving from House of Hawthornes
I love the industrial plumbing parts used to anchor these shelves. Pam used them as functional bathroom shelves, but I think they are stylish enough to be showcased in any area of your home.
This simple design could be customized to fit any area in your home.
#2) DIY Wood Floating Shelves from DIY Pete
While I’m not sure about the green wall he is mounting these on… 😉 these floating box shelves are pretty awesome.
The best part is that they are surprisingly simple to make. DIY Pete uses 2×4 anchors, and stained cedar boxes to mimic rustic wood. Follow the link to learn how to make them!
#3) DIY Farmhouse Shelves from Lolly Jane
I love the combination of rich woods with these distressed white shelf hangers. Kelli & Kristi use ordinary corbels (shelf wall anchors) and give them a farmhouse makeover with stain and white chalk paint.
Head on over to their Lolly Jane blog to learn how they did it!
#4) Chicken Wire & Wood Shelf Box from Lenas Willow
Sooooo, this particular box is for purchase from ETSY seller Lenas Willow. I included this in the DIY lineup because it’s simple enough that anyone with a pair of wire cutters could make it happen.
Nail and glue and small wood box, cut and attach chicken wire to the back.
You got this!
#5) DIY Farmhouse Shelves from The Turquoise Home
These are lovely, and styled so beautifully. Believe it or not they only cost $40 to make!
I don’t know about you, but I don’t mind seeing the black shelving brackets below the shelf. I think it adds extra farmhouse charm.

#7) DIY Rustic Farmhouse Shelves from Remodelaholic
This is actually another Twelve on Main design that was featured on the awesome DIY blog remodelaholic. Sara made the lovely corbel brackets out of wood, which add so much texture and style to this farmhouse shelf.
It’s a lovely understated addition to her light colored wall. Follow the link to learn more about what you’ll need to do to create this design!
#8) Industrial Pipe Farmhouse Shelves from Unoriginal Mom
This lovely DIY industrial pipe shelving is similar to the entertainment console shown above. I decided to feature this one separately because I like how it suspended mid way up the wall.
I also love the simple clean design and polished shelving.
#9) Farmhouse Shelves with Galvanized Tub by Simply Designing
This is a fun and creative spin on simple farmhouse box shelves. Ashley from Simply Designing blog uses galvanized tubs to set a stylish circular frame for these front porch shelves.
I think they are are stylish enough to live inside as well…don’t you?

This is a great way to add functional storage to small spaces. Simple stain and invert any wooden box on shelving brackets to achieve this look.
