Hey guys! If you’re looking for some bathroom remodeling ideas, you’re in the right place!
This post has been almost a year in the making…and I couldn’t be more excited to finally share it with you!
We’ve spent the past year managing and DIYing our real life fixer upper and transforming it into our modern farmhouse dream home.
This bathroom remodel might be my favorite room in the house.
But that goes without saying that remodeling any space in your home can be a major challenge!
What finishes should you pick? How much will it cost?!?! How can you be sure everything will go together?
It can be stressful.
Well, my hope is to take a little bit of the guess work out for you after working through this process with my handy husband John.
Below you will find practical home remodeling advice, info on tiles selection, hardware, finishes, cabinetry and more!
But before I wheel out this exciting reveal, take a minute and look at the before picture.

Master Bathroom Remodeling Ideas- After Photos
#1) Bathroom Remodeling: Tile Talk
When starting a bathroom remodel, the first thing I pick is the tile!
It covers a large surface area and can completely set the tone for your space.
For this remodel, I wanted our master bathroom to have a luxurious and rustic feel.
To achieve this we selected a rustic ceramic wood plank tile for the floor (which also hides everything known to man!)
We then paired with a glossy and glam light grey subway tile for the shower and tub wall.
I couldn’t be happier with how this combination turned out.
The colors and manufacturers from this design are listed below!

Master Bathroom Floor Tile- 6×36 Venetian Classic Oxidized Plank Color Weathered Beach
To Do List/Pointers for picking tile…
- Pull some pictures you like of bathroom design ideas.
- Look for a commonalities among the designs you like.
- Plan how to transfer those designs to your space.
- If selecting more than 1 tile color, make sure the colors coordinate.
- Consider how you want to lay the tile! (this can affect price)
- Don’t forget the grout. Those small spaces in between the tile can completely change the look depending on what grout filler you select.
Don’t panic.
Any decent tile store or home improvement store can help walk you through a lot of this!
#2) Bathroom Remodeling Ideas: Selecting Cabinetry
Merillat Cabinetry- Color Cannon Grey
In this remodel, we used Merillat Cabinetry.
Regardless of what you select, think about how you use the space. Do you love lots of counter space, a seated vanity, or have a lot of bathroom items that need room for storage?
Design your space around the belongings that you have and use everyday!
We like the Merillat Cabinetry line because they have different product lines to suit varying budgets, and the quality is great for the price.
I loved the dark rich grey/brown color of these cabinets, as well as the knots!
While bright white would have looked good in this space as well, I love the way the darker color contrasts with the floor and helps anchor the space.
#3) Bathroom Remodeling Ideas : Selecting Fixtures
This can get tricky! If you are selecting fixtures that are oil rubbed bronze, chrome, or silver things are fairly straight forward. You can mix and match manufacturers without a lot of worry.
But what about the brushed gold color that is so gorgeous?
I didn’t know there are roughly 7,368 different hues of gold until I tried pairing them together from different manufacturers! 😛
With a little trial and error, I was able to achieve that gorgeous brushed gold color that I love among a number of different manufacturers!
Those being…
The vanity lights below and geometric pendant were a near match to this brushed gold color!
You’ll find the make and manufacturer below in italics.

#4) Bathroom Remodeling Ideas: Budget Considerations
It’s probably time to talk about that elephant in the room.
When remodeling any space, you can quickly spend a kings ransom, or be very thrifty when it comes to your selections.
I like to first shoot for moon with the design I’m going for.
I then search for ways that I can achieve that look while also fiting within my budget.
Here’s an example…
I knew I wanted to bring in modern elements into this space through the bathroom fixtures.
The Delta Trinsic Collection was exactly the look I was going.
But, some of those fixtures were getting pretty pricey!
So, we looked online and at the big box stores for fixtures that mimicked the color and style.
While I knew I couldn’t find a replacement for my splurge worthy freestanding tub filler, I was able to saved hundreds on bathroom vanity faucets by selecting these big box store faucets below.
If you take some time do some price comparisons, you may be surprised at what you can save!

#5) Master Bath Remodeling Ideas: Counter Tops
Cambria Quartz: Color Britannica
Counter tops…your budget will be the biggest deciding factor here!
I’m a huge fan of stone and the veining within marble counter tops, but don’t want to pay the ridiculous price for them!
Not to mention you then have to live crazy carefully in fear of staining them…no thanks! 😛
I’m a getting ready fast make up slinger if you know what I mean. 😉
We decided to go with a manufactured stone Cambria quartz countertops!
These are one of the hardest surfaces you can buy (so you don’t have to worry about staining, sealing, etc as you do with natural stones like granite).
I’m not sure how they do it, but they achieve some incredible natural veining looks with these surfaces!
I put these in my kitchen as well and couldn’t love them more. <3
#6) Bathroom Tub Talk
Streamline Free Standing Bathtub
This bathroom layout had the tub positioned next to a window.
I wanted the energy in the room to transfer out of that window so I selected a free standing bathtub that was raised on one end.
I love that this tub is deep, cozy (not overly wide), and fits our smaller tub space perfectly.
We didn’t have a ton of room for a tub (which is positioned right next to our shower) so a free standing option was a great choice to keep the space feeling open and airy.
One note, make sure to talk with your plumber about drain locations, filling options etc before selecting your a free standing bath tub!

#7) Master Bathroom Shower Remodel
Would you believe me if I told you this new walk in shower used to be a dark undersized master bedroom closet?
For this remodel we had out plumber run water lines for two shower heads, and I’m SO glad we did!
I love the brushed gold color offset by the light grey glass subway tile.

Bathroom Chandelier Light
Eastgate 1-Light Geometric Pendant By Braden Studio
So technically, hanging a chandelier above a bath tub is against code for our local area.
I didn’t care! 😉
We aren’t looking to sell the home anytime soon, and we were we could easily replace this chandelier with a can light.
But that would not only be wrong on so many design levels it would also probably make me cry.
I hope that walking through this bathroom remodel helps you with your remodeling project! Let me know if you have any questions about this design or your remodeling project below in the comments. 🙂

My bathroom is by far the most outdated room in my home, so I’ve decided that it’s finally time to give it a makeover. It makes sense that I would want to start by choosing a type of tile for it! I’ll be sure to find tiles that have a nice color that I can work with when I choose other parts of the bathroom.
